Hanigan to DL, Corky Called, Mes With a Chance

Well, it was said Ryan Hanigan had been nursing an injured thumb, but it appears that Hani is yet another Red to hit the disabled list, but for another reason…a strained oblique. Corky Miller has been called up from Louisville to take Hanigan’s spot on the 25-man and Nick Masset was moved to the 60-day DL to clear a 40-man spot for Corky.

Hanigan has struggled this season posting a triple slash of .079/.182/.079 and has only 3 hits in 44 plate appearances.

For those that have longed for Devin Mesoraco to get playing time, here ya go. He did a fantastic job yesterday in catching Bronson Arroyo for only his third time. That’s a battery we’ll see a little more now.

What will be the most intriguing battery will be that of Mes and Mat Latos. I say this only because Hanigan has caught all four times Latos has pitched this season. Mesoraco caught Latos three times last season.

to bad hannigan had to get injured but at least he gets more than 2 games a month to show what he can do and more importantly gain the experience by plying that dusty loves so much. here is hoping he keeps up the good work he has done so far. and even if he does not set the world on fire hannigan was hitting below a .100 before he got hurt . just let the kid play!

and masset has been moved to the 60 day dl? shocking! the day this guy does more than just take up a roster spot for the reds will be a miracle! the guy has been on the dl since he came to the reds!

2009: 74 appearances; 2010: 82 appearances 2011: 75 appearances. Last year he did miss the entire season, but only time as a Red he had missed any extended time.

Honestly, I think the Reds are better off without Masset and his 40% inherited runners scored from 2011 at this point.

2011 wasn’t his best season by any means…

Hopefully Hanigan’s thumb issue is why he was hitting so bad.

That and the oblique issue combined would make it all the worse, too.

When did he suffer the oblique issue? I thought it was the game right before he got put on the DL (after getting hit by a Chapman pitch.) Of course, I could be completely wrong about that, but that’s what I thought I heard.

I thought I heard he tweaked it in an attempt to snare an errant Chapman pitch.

            That sounds right
