Raising Reds: 4/17/13; Bats Bring Bats

Seems like the Reds weren’t the only team in the organization the had a bit of an offensive evening. The Louisville Bats scored a few runs. The Bakersfield Blaze worked the opposite approach in shutting out their opponents from Inland Empire.

Meanwhile, The Blue Wahoos and Dayton Dragons didn’t exactly receive stellar starting efforts. For the day, Reds affiliates were split with a 2-2 record.

Jose Arredondo: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 SO
Mark Prior: IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, SO
Kevin Whelan: IP, H, 2 SO

The majority of the offensive damage came from the bottom of the batting order. The Bats ‘pen held the Clippers to only one hit over the game’s final 4 innings.

W: Olmos (2-0, 0.00) ; L: Crabbe (1-1, 4.60)

Steve Selsky: 2-4, 2 RBI (5)

Not the best of outings for Tim Crabbe. He went 4.2 innings and allowed 7 runs on 14 hits as well as three home runs. The Blue Wahoos are still struggling a little at the plate, so that doesn’t help the staff. Once this team finds the lumber, it will be something to behold.

W: Merritt (1-2, 1.80) ; L: Guillon (0-2, 6.75)

Brent Peterson: 3-4, RBI (3), SB (2)

Peterson is making a huge push for more playing time. He’s 11-20 at the plate (.550). Ismael Guillon had a nightmarish outing, going only 3.1 innings and issuing 9 walks. Yes, that is not a typo. Nine walks. He also threw five wild pitches. For the season, Guillon has hurled 10.2 innings, walked 16 and struck out 18. Might be wondering if there’s something here. Guillon has had slight control issues in the past, not near to this extent.
