Reds/Pirates Game 3 Preview and Game Thread - 4/14/13

The other day I wrote of the Good Guys taking a gut punch in that 6-5 loss in the opening game of this series with the Pirates. Might say there could be a belated one after last night’s loss, too. Yep. I’m unfortunately referring to Johnny Cueto leaving the game with a triceps injury.

Today, the Reds turn to ace #2 Mat Latos to stop the slide. With the Cueto injury with a possible DL stint looming for Reds ace #1, Mat may have to take over as top dog on the Reds staff.

The Pirates will counter with Phil Irwin who is making his big league debut. The Pirates made Irwin the starter due to a hamstring issue with Wandy Rodriguez. To make room for Irwin of their roster, the Buccos optioned Cincy native and Princeton alum Josh Harrison to Triple-A.

Time to roll up those sleeves, get a win and bust that four-game losing streak. Who’s with me?

Welcome to the big time…I suppose.

Are we seeing the end to Cozart’s early season funk? Moving up to #2 in the order saw him go 3-for-5 last night including a home run which accounted for the Good Guys only run. BP returns to the Reds starting nine after missing last night’s game. Hopefully, we won’t see Cincy going 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position this afternoon. That was the case in last night’s game.

Pittsburgh moves Snider up to #2 and drops Walker down to the 5th slot. McKenry gets the starting nod as does McDonald. The ol’ day game after a night game deal, I guess.
