Game Thread: Reds v. Cards – 4/8/13

The Good Guys first road trip of the 2013 season sees them encroaching on enemy territory in St. Louis as the Reds square off against the Cardinals. In 2012, both teams made the postseason with the Reds winning the NL Central and the Cards getting a Wild Card spot. St. Louis won the 2012 seasons series by a slim 8-7 margin.

Of note is that since Dusty Baker became the Reds manager, he has won the season series only once (2011: 9-6) and owns a Reds managerial record of 35-44 against the Cardinals.

Is this as contested a rivalry between the teams as the fans make it out to be? To me, it seems like the fans make much more out of this than the players. The players have a somewhat differing view or so it seems that some do.

To a point, isn’t it the fans that make a rivalry or does it take “cooperation” form the players to fulfill this? Who knows, but I know these fanbases love to poke and prod each other. May even see a little of that here to day.

Anyway…here’s the facts for today’s game.

Reds: Mat Latos (2013: 0-0, 4.05 ERA, 1.200 WHIP; v. STL: 2-4, 9.00 ERA, 1.824 WHIP; last appearance v. STL: 10/2/12)

    Welcome!

  • Josh Bresser

I hope Dusty doesn’t make Choo’s first bench game against a righty.

    • http://blogredmachine.com/ Steve O’Red

I will guess that Wednesday regardless of who is pitching will be a likely game in which Choo doesn’t start. That is provided he lets Dusty sit him..

  • Josh Bresser

    Nice feed, FS Ohio.

And Garcia loses his perfect game bid by walking Latos. Granted, top of the 3rd, but a four-pitch walk to the opposing pitcher…

Is it me or has every inning been a stressful inning?

  • http://blogredmachine.com/ Steve O’Red

True, gotta hold your breath when you see anyone slide head first anymore.

Are you kidding me? What was that, Heisey?

Oh. noes. Can only imagine the Twitter frenzy after that…

How about BP there. Down 0-2 in the count and take the ball oppo for a run scoring single to break the tie.

And the Bronx cheer erupts at Busch…

  • http://blogredmachine.com/ Steve O’Red

How was that for an inning. Scored 9 runs and sent 15 batters to the plate.

AND THIS ONE BELONGS TO THE REDS! 13-4, Good Guys take the first game of the series!
