Reds Affiliates Season Openers Tonight!

Many watched the Reds Opening Day and now some of their minor league affiliates will play their Opening Game tonight.

The anticipation for the Bats home opener may not reach a higher level than this evening. I think we all know why that’s the case: the Bats debut of Billy Hamilton. It’s also the debut of skipper Jim Riggleman who arrives in Louisville after managing Pensacola last season. Riggleman takes over for David Bell who departed for a post with the Chicago Cubs.

The arms to watch are Tony Cingrani and Daniel Corcino. The most intriguing might be Mark Prior for obvious reasons.

Tennessee @ Pensacola – 8:00 PM ET

The Blue Wahoos begin their second season as a Reds affiliate. Delino DeShields takes over for Riggleman and the Blue Wahoos return a fair number of players that were on their roster last season.

That infield could be something special with Donald Lutz, Devin Lohamn, Travis Mattair, Brodie Greene and David Vidal. The outfield possess a lot of speed with the likes of Theo Bowe, Ryan LaMarre and Bryson Smith. Steve Selsky tore up Cal League pitchers last season (.348/.420/.618, 15 HR, 48 RBI).

Bakersfield @ Stockton

Ken Griffey, Sr. returns to the California League for his second season in Bakersfield. A couple of guys to watch are Carlos Contreras and Yorman Rodriguez. Both are on the Reds 40-man roster. This will be the second go-around for Rodriguez in a Blaze uniform.

Dayton @ West Michigan

The Dragons roster is loaded. New Dragons skipper Jose Nieves takes over for DeShields. If you follow Tom Nichols on Twitter (he’s their Director of Media Relations and broadcaster), you know he’s been gushing about the guys the Dragons have for 2013. Head to his timeline and look for his tweets from March 30. Pretty impressive especially that outfield which I peeked at here.
