Reds Prospect Amir Garrett Leaving St. John's Hoops

The New York Daily News reports that Reds prospect Amir Garrett is leaving the St. John’s basketball program. Garrett confirmed his decision via Twitter. The Daily News adds that close to Garrett are saying the move is an effort in which Garrett could pursue his baseball career over basketball. As you will see, it doesn’t sound as though that is exactly the case.

Garrett also tweeted that this was not a rash decision, but one that was “well thought out”. He later added this.

Does this sound like someone that is ditching his hoops career? Not to me. Another Program”. “Next program”. Sounds like Garrett is going to continue to look for opportunities in basketball.

The vast majority of the tweets Garrett received were supportive of his deicsion, but apparently. there is a St. John’s fan who is also a Cards fan and this decision didn’t set right with him.

Garrett began his first season in the Reds organization with the AZL Reds and was promoted to Billings in August. Overall, Garret was 0-2 with a 4.05 ERA and 1.550 WHIP.
