Reds, Latos Agree on Two-Year Deal

Mark Sheldon tweeted the following:

That two-year deal is worth $11.5MM for Latos. It’s also one less possibility of heading to the arbitration panel. One remains: Homer Bailey.

Latos was requesting for $4.7MM for the upcoming season while the Reds offered $4.15MM. Appears as Latos made out pretty well considering those numbers.

A concern previous to the 2012 campaign was how Latos would pitch at GABP. He did quite well posting an 8-3 record with an ERA of 3.18 and WHIP of 1.123 in 19 starts. On the road, he was 6-1 with an ERA of 3.93 and WHIP of 1.217. Many have projected Latos as developing into an ace. It seems that’s the direction in which Latos is heading.

Latos was acquired prior to the start of last season from the San Diego Padres in exchange for Edinson Volquez, Yonder Alonso, Yasmani Grandal and Brad Boxberger.

Last season, Latos was 14-4 with a 3.48 ERA and 1.161 WHIP for the Reds. Fir his four year career, Latos owns a record of 41-33 with and ERA of 3.41 and WHIP of 1.156.
