Apparently, the days of Scott Rolen in a Reds uniform might be over. This according to the Reds official Twitter as they note Rolen will not be in camp with the Reds. Rolen has left the door open, but he also said he’s not ready to give a commitment (Twitter link).
It has been a debate for some thime now. We had heard that Rolen was leaning towrd retirement after last year’s NLDS. Then, there was emerging chatter that Rolen may have had a change of heart. Just the other day, John Fay asked Reds CEO Bob Castellini about Rolen. Mr. Castellini stated that it was up to Rolen.
No one will ever deny what Rolen brought to this team from a leadership perspective as you will see from the following tweets…
“Scott made significant contributions to our recent success, it isn’t a coincidence we made the playoffs in 2 of his 3 full seasons here…
— Reds (@Reds) February 12, 2013
…(Scott) made a huge impact in Cincinnati with his work ethic and leadership on the field, in the clubhouse and in our community.”

I doubt anyone is shocked that Rolen isn’t in Goodyear. With third base being presented to Todd Frazier, it appeared Rolen’s role on the field would be a diminished one.
Here’s hoping that one day we see Rolen grace the halls of Cooperstown.
