Rose and Costas Are Vying for Your Viewership Tonight

You read that correctly. Pete Rose and Bob Costas want you to watch them tonight. They’re not on the same program, They’re not even on the same network. In reality (pardon the pun), that shouldn’t be a surprise.

You might remember the post I did the other day about Rose making his rounds within the media circles in order to promote his reality show Pete Rose: Hits & Mrs. While the show had its initial showing last evening, tonight TLC, the network which carries the half-hour program, will be re-airing the first two episodes this evening which debuted last evening.

Rose’s show airs tonight at 10 PM ET.

How does Costas figure into this? He’s got a new gig, too.

If reality shows aren’t your cup of tea, tonight at 8 PM ET, the MLB Network will debut Costas at the Movies.

For the next five weeks, Costas will be interviewing celebrities and directors from different baseball-themed movies. Here’s the schedule per a press release from the MLB Network.

Monday, January 14 – Cobb
Interviews: Actor Tommy Lee Jones (Ty Cobb) and Director Ron Shelton
Monday, January 21 – Bad News Bears
Interview: Actress Tatum O’Neal (Amanda Whurlizer)
Monday, January 28 – A League of Their Own
Interviews: Actress Geena Davis (Dottie Hinson) and Director Penny Marshall
Monday, February 4 – Eight Men Out
Interviews: Director John Sayles
Monday, February 11 – The Natural
Interview: Director Barry Levinson

I know one movie that might appeal to Reds fans is Eight Men Out which follows the 1919 World Series in which the Reds won, 5 games to 3. Some may remember that series for the infamous Black Sox Scandal as some White Sox players, including Shoeless Joe Jackson, were accused of throwing the series. Those players would later be banned from the game due to their perceived involvement although Jackson maintained innocence until his passing.

The movies will follow the airing of the interviews which are a half an hour.

So now you have a choice of what to watch tonight. Watch a flick about Ty Cobb or watch a reality show starring the guy that broke Cobb’s hit record.

Here’s another tease of Pete’s show…
