BRM Week In Review

A high-level look at the week that was for the good guys…

8/13/12 – 8/19/12
Record: 5-2
Runs: 37-28 (+11)
Standings: 1st in NL Central
Race: Gained 2.0 games on Pirates; gained 1.5 games on Cardinals

Player of the Week (regular with highest wOBA): Jay Bruce – 12 for 28 with 9 runs, including 3 doubles, a triple, 3 homeruns, and 7 runs batted in.

Pitcher of the Week (determined by highest Game Score): Mike Leake – 79 (barely edging out Johnny Cueto’s 76 on Saturday); Complete game, 4 hits, 1 run (earned), no walks and 4 strikeouts.

The Difference Maker (highest Win Probability Added [WPA]): Xavier Paul – that’s right… despite great performances by Bruce, Ryan Ludwick, and Todd Frazier, Paul takes the top spot here with only 8 plate appearances, and it’s not even close.  XP added almost half a win all by himself (0.43) while the next closest was Frazier at 0.29.  He can thank his leadoff triple in the bottom of the ninth in yesterday’s win, as well as the 2-run homerun that proved to be the difference in the first game Saturday.  Quite the weekend for the Reds lefty off the bench.
