The Week in Red: 1/13/2012

What a week it’s been to be a Reds fan! A great announcement in Barry Larkin being elected to the Hall of Fame. A great signing as the Reds now have a closer in Ryan Madson…for at least one year. All that’s missing is a great ending. Maybe this post will be that.

Here’s some things that may have gotten shoved under the rug this past week.

Some folks are big into ZiPS projections and others are more into Bill James. Either way, there are what they are…projections. It’s always fun to look at them though. Got to see how the good guys are supposed to do this season, right? (HT to Baseball Think Factory)

Speaking of the Hall of Fame, here’s a different take on a BBWAA member and the HOF vote. It all rides on one factor: PEDs. I’m of the “old school” belief, but I also know that thought process can be flawed up to a certain point, both in time and logic. When I had a personal blog, I put ARod’s 600 homer in the round file. I know there will be a day where these “indiscretions” will be forgiven by the current crop of writers. It’s seems we’re getting there quicker than I thought (HT to Sporting News).

After the Madson signing, a popular question should have been “Do the Reds have more money to spend?” Seems like our friends over at Redleg Nation (wait, it’s Barry Larkin Nation. My bad.) are going to dive into that question.

Well, if they have more, what would you want next? Some would want what Walt wants…

This list is a bit shorter than the one John compiled for us, but the names on Fay’s short list are all there on our own John’s.

Two names of interest: Rick Ankiel and Ryan Ludwick…for obvious reasons. Getting kind of tired of retreads…

And retreads are trendy! Or were trendy. Whatever…

With today being what it is, I thought why not bring out this trailer…
