Reds Arizona Fall League Update

The first week of the Arizona Fall League is in the books. Here’s an update on how Reds prospects are doing for the Phoenix Desert Dogs:

C – Yasmani Grandal – Grandal has caught in two games and is 2-7 at the plate with a double and one RBI.

2B – Cody Puckett – Like Grandal, Puckett has only played in two games so far and is 1-5 in those two games. His one hit? A 2-R HR on October the 5th. Puckett was 0-2 on the 7th, but did draw a pair of walks.

LHP – Donnie Joseph – Joseph, in 2 games, is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA. He has struck out 3 and walked 2 in 2.2 IP. After a throwing a scoreless 1.2 innings on Oct. 5th, Joseph was roughed up on the 7th giving up 2 runs on 3 hits in one IP.

LHP – Travis Webb – Webb has pitched in just one game (Oct 7) so far. In that game he went 2.1 innings and gave up 2 ER on 3 hits.

RHP – Bradley Boxberger – Whether you want to call him Brad, Bradley, or Boxy, there’s one thing that cannot be mistaken: he is good. Boxberger picked up a 4-out save, striking out all four batters he faced, on October 4th. Boxberger struck out three more in a scoreless inning of work on the 7th, although he did load the bases with a pair of walks and a hit. But still, that’s a 7-2 K:BB ratio. Which is stellar.

RHP – Nick Christiani – Christiani has been the best pitcher statistically so far. He’s thrown a pair of scoreless innings, giving up just one hit, striking out three, and walking none.

That’s all for now. Be sure to check BRM for more updates on these and other Reds prospects as other winter leagues start up soon.
