This is something that I haven’t done in quite a while. Here are three stories involving the Reds that have come across my reader. All are intersting. One is surprising. One really isn’t. The other…it’s informative and about the Reds skipper, Dusty Baker. Well, here goes…
The Mesoraco Watch
It’s no secret that many Reds fans have been clamoring for the brass to call up one Devin Mesoraco. A lot of those are shocked that Meso isn’t already in the bigs (myself included). MLB.co’s Jonathan Mayo offers a quick note about the possibility for Mesoraco being brought to Cincy once the rosters expand. Snce the Bats are not in line to make the playoffs (sorry, Kevin), I think it’s a no-brainer.
Rijo and Trouble at Home
This falls under the category of “Oh, No!”
“The Justice Ministry’s Anti-laundering Unit on Monday raided the Las Galeras Hotel in northeastern Samaná, owned by former Cincinnati Reds star pitcher Jose Rijo, in search of evidence against his associate, Matias Avelino Castro, accused of murdering the journalist Jose Silvestre, in La Romana (east).”
Dominican Today posted this yesterday afternoon. Within the article is another scary deal, Rijo could have his hotel seized by the government if this situation involving his associate warrants it. Reading the comments gets to you a bit as well.
Dusty and TLR
A hat tip to Chris Jaffe of The Hardball Times for this one. Question: Did you know that Dusty Baker and Cards manager Tony LaRussa will soon be squaring off for the 200th time? I didn’t either until Jaffe nudged me with that fact. Oh, and Chris also informs us of many other odd bits of info surrounding manger match-ups.
