Java du Jour: Not Fade Away

Courtesy of Jorge Arangure Jr.

Well, they won! As painful as it was to watch the Reds give up an 8-run lead, the Reds managed to avoid the sweep last night. Ramon Hernandez had only one at-bat, but he made it count by driving in the winning run. Aroldis Chapman pitched well and locked down his first career MLB save. This game was far from pretty, and there are plenty of complaints to be made. Nonetheless, the Reds won a very important game, giving them the chance to build some momentum heading into the break.

Reds Roast

  • Walt Jocketty seemed a little testy with reporters yesterday when asked about potential moves. Imagine if reporters actually asked the questions we would like them to like, “Why is Edgar Renteria taking a roster spot on this team?”
  • Doug Gray (@dougdirt24) of RedsMinorLeagues.com tweeted this rumor this morning:

So it appears that the rumor is that Zack Cozart has been called up. From a fairly reliable source too. Nothing official yet though.

  • A reminder to Reds fans, please follow BRM staff writer @kevingeary10 on twitter. He gives great updates on the Louisville Bats. Speaking of… the Bats won in walk-off fashion last night. Red Reporter has the rest of the minor league scoop.

Broadway Blend

Locally brewed – The Precinct restaurant is likely to expand. You know, if you can afford that kind of place…

Hollywood brew – Seth Rogen, intent on living up to his “pot-head” image, will produce a movie called Jamaica.

Strange brew – A woman in Mexico tried to help a man escape prison by stuffing him into a suitcase.

Viral brew Messing with people at fast food restaraunts.

Harmonious brew – Buddy Holly, like the Reds, “Not Fade Away”

Somehow I didn’t turn that game off last night. But for whatever reason, I didn’t care what the outcome was going to be. Obviously, I’m happy they got the win, but I think a loss would have felt almost the same. Here’s hoping something happens with the roster. Anything, I don’t care, just something that makes me excited. Boredom is starting to set in.

Hanigan squared a ball up last night, which gives him two hard hit balls this week already. That’s one more than his weekly average.
