Are you disappointed you didn’t win the Reds tickets in our last contest? Worry not my fellow Reds fan. The Community Collaboration Contest is back! The contest winner will receive 2 tickets to the Reds’ nationally televised game against the Braves on Sunday, July 24th at Great American Ballpark. In case you missed the last contest, here are the details. On May 20th, I wrote a summary of the Reds’ first quarter. My next task is to summarize the Reds’ second quarter of the season. After the game on Sunday, July 10th against the Brewers, the Reds will have completed [...]

Java du Jour: Ohio Edition (6/30/2011)
The Reds are off today, leaving many of us with a feeling similar to “empty-nest syndrome.” Nonetheless, Reds fans should feel pretty good about their team as the month of June comes to an end. Over the last 4 series, the Reds have outscored AL East opponents by a total of 5 runs. Over those 12 games, Reds pitching allowed more than 5 runs only once, averaging 3.5 runs allowed per game. The Reds pitching staff has really performed magnificently over the last month. For the month of June, the Reds’ pitchers allowed only 3.5 runs per game, while the [...]

Consistent Production
As I enjoyed this afternoons game I started thinking about consistent run production and how it affects the outcome of games throughout the season. It goes to the heart of a number of subjects that Reds fans regularly are often concerned about. We seem to leave a lot of runners on base and fail to capitalize on opportunities that present themselves during the course of the season. I not only wanted to know how productive the Reds have been but I also wanted to see how the Reds lineup stacks up against the published list of top National League All [...]

Checking in on Adam Dunn
Given the time in which the Reds became near and dear to my heart, Adam Dunn ranks inordinately high on my favorite-players-of-all-time list. It’d be a good bet that many of you are the same. And if you have been checking in on the Reds’ slugger of yesteryear this season (or if he is on your fantasy team), you’ll know that Dunn has had a fair share of struggles this season. From an early season appendectomy to what has become a half-season long and seemingly permanent slump that is bordering on painful, the wheels seem to have just fell off.
Java du Jour: Reds Roast (6/28/2011)
The Reds will send Johnny Cueto to the mound to face the Rays tonight. Last night in Dayton, the Dragons’ starting pitcher might have been confused for Johnny Cueto. His name is Daniel Corcino. Tell me if this sounds familiar: he’s a 5’11” right-handed pitcher from the Dominican Republic with a fastball in the mid-90s, a good slider and a good change-up. Pitching for the Dragons at A-ball, Corcino has racked up some impressive numbers – 8-3, 2.53 ERA, 89 K, 15 BB, 74.2 IP. He’s holding opponents to a .206 batting average. At 20 years old, he could rise [...]
