Reds tidbits on Votto, Renteria, Podsednik, and Nix. MLBTradeRumors compiles some wisdom from insider John Fay.
Reds will appear on national TV many more times next season than they did in 2010. They will appear on FOX Saturday baseball and ESPN Sunday Night Baseball several times.
Reds great Larkin fell just short of garnering an invitation to the baseball hall of fame. With over 60% of the vote this year, Larkin should be in position to make the hall in the near future. Mark Sheldon writes about just how close Larkin came this year.
RedReporter.com recently made an interesting chart showing the strength of the minor league systems of all major league teams. The Royals came out on top with easily the most loaded farm system. The Reds had the 7th best farm system. The chart is linked.
Mark Sheldon writes about the recent signing of Renteria and the reaction from the 2010 World Series MVP. There have been conflicting stories about whether Renteria signed thinking he would be the starter.
Renteria may add some nice depth at SS, but the addition of Scott Podsednik would be a great complementary piece the club. While Gomes has the pop, Podsednik as the speed and bat handling ability to perfectly complement that power. Podsednik could also lead off at times if Baker deemed such a move necessary. Adding Podsednik would also make Gomes a slump-proof player. Podsednik could play when Gomes slumps, and Gomes could rest when needed. Whoever is hot would play. Sounds like a winning situation to me. I hope Jocketty makes the move. The longer Podsednik goes unsigned by anyone else, the easier it will be for the Reds to get him.
