I felt a quick post regarding the contract situation with Joey Votto was necessary. Many Reds fans have questioned why Joey would give such vague answers regarding his contract situation if he really wanted to stay in Cincinnati.
Dusty Baker said today that he talked to Votto and that Votto did not mean to come off as not caring. Baker said, “I talked to him at the airport. He wants to stay big-time. He didn’t mean for it to come across like he didn’t want to stay. . . . he just didn’t want to say he was going to stay for the rest of his life either.”
The Reds and Votto will continue to talk through their negotiators but Walt Jocketty said that he does not expect anything to happen any time soon regarding the Reds’ arbitration eligible players.
Baker went on to say, “Joey’s kind of vague on things. Sure, everybody wants to know what’s going to happen three or four years from now. But you don’t know. To me, what’s important is to try to get Joey signed now and hopefully we have Joey years to come as well.”
