Catchers Provided Huge Lift in 2010
If any position produced an eyebrow raising performance for the Reds in 2010, it was the catching position. Even more astounding may be that the Reds didn’t limit the success to any one of the three catchers implemented this past season. Reds manager Dusty Baker was able, at a couple of times out of necessity, to use the talents of Ramon Hernandez, Ryan Hanigan and Corky Miller. All three contributed beyond many expectations. When both Hernandez and Hanigan had stints on the disabled list, Corky Miller stepped in and stepped up like the professional he is.

Right Field Lacked Only Production
Not a ringing endorsement and I know this sounds like the right field position failed the Reds as far as run production goes. To an extent, yes it did. The bulk of the workload fell onto the ever broadening shoulders of Jay Bruce. He carried that burden perhaps a little better than some may have thought he could. In each of his first two seasons, Bruce was sidelined, cutting his seasons a bit short. It was pretty much a given from the start of the regular season that Dusty Baker was going to trot Drew Stubbs out to the center field position. He realistically didn’t have many others options considering the talent Stubbs possesses. And Baker saw a glimpse of what could be toward the end of 2009 and decided Stubbs was the guy…for 135 games. A lot to place on a guy that had only 42 games of MLB experience coming into the season.
