Sam LeCure Makes his Major League Debut

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sam LeCure will make his first Major League start tonight in place of the injured Homer Bailey. In nine starts for Louisville this season, LeCure was 5-2 with a 2.55 ERA, 15 walks and 51 strikeouts in 60 innings. In his last start vs. Scranton-Wilkes Barre, he threw a one-hit shutout for a 5-0 win. LeCure was named the International League pitcher of the week after he tossed 16 scoreless innings over his last two starts. “He’s been pitching the best,” Reds manager Dusty Baker said. “Houston generally does better against left-handers than right-handers. Maloney has been pitching well, too. [...]

Votto and his Achy Breaky Neck

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

Joey Votto has sat out the last two games with a severe stiff neck. Miguel Cairo has filled in admirably for the Reds’ best player. Cairo has gone 5-9 with 3 runs scored. Expect Miguel to be back in there tonight. With his hot bat and a chance to keep resting Votto’s neck let’s hope Dusty doesn’t risk Votto for a stint on the disabled list.

75 Years

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

Seventy-five years ago, on May 24, 1935, Crosley Field hosted the first night game in the history of Major League Baseball. Night baseball was immediately a huge success in Cincinnati. The Reds averaged over 18,000 fans per game at seven night games played during the 1935 season-four times the average of its day games. On Monday, May 24 when the Reds take on the Pittsburgh Pirates at 7:10 pm, Great American Ball Park will go back in time to 1935 with many exciting celebrations honoring the 75th anniversary of the first night game: A Journey Back To 1935 From the [...]

Reds call-up Rookie

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Reds called up rookie pitcher Enerio Del Rosario to take Homer Bailey’s roster spot. The 24-year-old put on quite a show during spring training and came close to landing a spot in the Reds’ bullpen. Instead Del Rosario was assigned to Louisville, where he has rattled off a 1.46 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP in 24-plus innings of relief. He should stick around for a while. I would imagine he is pitches well, the Reds will send Carlos Fisher back down to the minors.

Homer Bailey on the 15 Day Disabled List

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

Homer Bailey was placed on the 15-day disabled list. His MRI showed only slight inflammation of his right shoulder. The Reds don’t believe the injury to be serious and are hoping that he will only miss the allotted 15 days. Bailey is 1-2 this season with a 5.51 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP through nine starts.

Homer Bailey Leaves in the Third Inning

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

Homer Bailey had to leave today’s game with the Cleveland Indians with discomfort in his throwing arm. Not good!! He is scheduled for a MRI tomorrow with team Doctor Tim Kremchek. If this is some sort of long lasting injury, this might pave the way for Aroldis Chapman to make his major league debut.

Bronson Hustle

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Reds lead the majors in going from first to third on a single. They’ve done it 32 times. The Texas Rangers were second at 25. “You’ve always got the guy who can do it,” Baker said. “I think a lot of it is emphasis and a lot of it is judgment of when to do it. I’ve been emphasizing it since I’ve been here. Sometimes, it takes a little while to get an understanding.” In Sunday’s game alone, they went first to third on a single five times. Even pitcher Bronson Arroyo did it. “That one shocked me a [...]

Reds = Little Cuba

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Reds announced the signing of another Cuban defector on Monday. They signed outfielder Felix Perez for a meager 550,000. Perez was too sign with the Yankees in 2009 for 3.5 million but lied about his age. He said he was 20. He was actually 24 at the time. Major League Baseball also suspended him. “We don’t think he’s going to be a Hall of Famer,” said Tony Arias, the Reds’ director of Latin American scouting. “But we think that he’s an addition that hopefully down the road will be of value to the organization.” Perez has been in the [...]

Mike Leake: Unflappable

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

Rookie pitcher Mike Leake is unflappable. The kid raised his record to an undefeated 4-0 on Saturday before a sellout crowd of 41000 plus. He was facing the St. Louis Cardinals and Albert Pujols. It was the Gillette Civil Rights game. It was attended by many great past heroes of baseball and of pop culture. And, he didn’t miss a beat. He pitched six innings of two run ball, struck out 5 and outdueled Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright. Leake changed his gameplan in the third inning after Colby Rasmus homered off of him. “I started out quick and in the [...]

The Reds have committed a National League-low 15 errors and entered Sunday leading the league with a .989 fielding percentage. “I’m not counting, but that’s one thing we stress and we told everybody in Spring Training, is defense,” Reds manager Dusty Baker said. “You look at where we are in pitching and look where we are in hitting, but you also look where we are in defense. If we weren’t playing defense, where would we be?” The defense has been a big part of the recent success of the Reds’ starting pitchers. “I think it gives them confidence,” Cabrera said. [...]

The Mini

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

I had to post this review on my site. I know this is a baseball site but I had to tell some others about this movie. I had never even heard of it, but I saw it at Blockbuster. It won some comedy film festival awards and thought what the heck. It was well worth it. It is funny. It has a good plot and the characters are excellent. If you see it on the shelf at Blockbuster, then rent it. I am going to buy a copy from Amazon.com. This is one of those movies you can watch over [...]
