Burton Avoids Arbitration

The Reds avoided arbitration with Jared Burton and signed him to a one-year deal. The financial terms are not yet available. Burton, 28, was a superb setup man during his first two years in the league but he took a step in the wrong direction last season, finishing with a 4.40 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over 59 innings. The Reds are hopeful he can rebound.

He pitched horribly last year. His velocity was down and his changeup was very hittable. He was sent down to the Minors at some point last season. He just couldn’t get anyone out. I doubt he even makes the club out of Arizona this spring. I don’t look for much at all from him this year.
