Reds Hire New Announcer

Paul Keels, radio voice of Ohio State Athletics, will serve as play-by-play broadcaster for Cincinnati Reds games not led by Thom Brennaman on Fox Sports Ohio.
Both Brennaman and Keels will team with color analysts Chris Welsh and Jeff Brantley.

Barry Larkin eligible for the Hall of Fame

Barry Larkin is among 15 first time candidates of this year’s Hall of Fame ballot. He is joining returning candidates Mark McGwire, Andre Dawson and Bert Blyleven.
Edgar Martinez, Roberto Alomar and Fred McGriff also are new to the ballot this year. There are 26 candidates.
Larkin was a twelve time All-Star and three time Gold Glove shortstop in 19 seasons. He played his entire career with the Cincinnati Reds. He had a .295 career average with 198 homers and won the 1995 NL MVP award. He is currently working as an analyst for the MLB Network.

Kevin Towers in the Reds Suite

Kevin Towers, former Padre General Manager, was spotted with Walt Jocketty, Reds GM. He was spotted sitting with him in the Reds suite. When asked if Towers was now an employee with the Reds, Jocketty replied, “You can go ahead and start that rumor.”
The Reds already employ two former Major League General Managers in Cam Bonifay, Pirates, and Bill Bavasi from the Seattle Mariners.

Reds Trade Bait

The Reds are prepared to part with Closer Francisco Cordero and Bronson Arroyo or Aaron Harang. If they trade Cordero, they would cut 25 million dollars from payroll in the next two years.

Winter Meeting Rumors

A couple of rumors flying around Indy today are about two free agents the Reds are interested in. The players are Utilityman Jamey Carroll, formerly of the Indians, and Pitcher Noah Lowry, who hasn’t pitched in the majors the past 2 seasons. He has missed the last 2 years with shoulder and elbow issues. Jamey Carroll hit .276 and scored 53 runs in 93 games last year. He can play second and third base.

Vote for Joe

Put Joe Nuxhall in the hall of fame. Voting for the Ford Frick award began Tuesday, December 1. But to vote for the Ol Lefthander, you must have a Facebook account.
The Reds Hall of Fame pitcher and radio baseball announcer made the final list the past two years, but did not get in spite of being the top online vote-getter.
Nuxhall also missed out on the award, being a finalist in 2004.
Joe Nuxhall died Nov. 15, 2007, at age 79 after battling lymphoma, pneumonia and a failing heart.

Redsfest

The Cincinnati Reds are putting on their famous Redsfest this weekend at the Duke Energy Center. It’s a really nice event. There are plenty of chances for autographs and to get up close to the players. It is definitely for the youngsters but its still fun to attend.
