Trade Harang?

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

Should we trade Aaron Harang? If we have a bad road trip then we need to discuss trading a pitcher or two for prospects.

Reds have Lost 9 Straight

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Reds have lost 9 straight in L.A. This could be the make or break trip of the season for Cincinnati. They will travel to Los Angeles and Chicago. If they can’t bring home a winning record on this trip, it might be time to start making moves.

Pete in the HOF?

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

Twelve years later, baseball commissioner Bud Selig still is examining Pete Rose’s application for reinstatement. The career hits leader agreed to a lifetime ban from baseball in 1989 after an investigation concluded he bet on the Cincinnati Reds to win while he was manager of the team. Rose applied for reinstatement in September 1997 and met with Selig in November 2002. His effort to gain reinstatement appeared to falter after he admitted in his 2004 autobiography, “Pete Rose: My Prison Without Bars,” that his previous gambling denials were false. “It is under review,” Selig said Tuesday during a question-and-answer session [...]

Perfect Timing

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

I think its perfect timing for the Reds to have a few days off. They can clear their heads and heal some wounds. They have been playing just plain awful. They have lost 7 of the last 10. The starting pitching has been miserable and clutch hitting has been non-existent. I hope the time off can resurrect some of the spirit that Cincy had at the start of the season.

Reds Close to Signing 1st Rounders

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

The club has been in extensive talks with agent Dan Horwits, who represents pitchers Mike Leake and Brad Boxberger, the eighth and 43rd overall picks, respectively. “It’s going very well with both of those guys,” Reds scouting director Chris Buckley said by phone Wednesday. “We haven’t been in a super duper rush, because both guys pitched a lot and were tired. Hopefully, we’re pretty close.” Leake, a right-hander taken from Arizona State, was 16-1 with a 1.71 ERA, 24 walks and 162 strikeouts in 19 games this season. A key member of the Sun Devils’ run in the College World [...]

Jay’s Injury Outlook

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

According to the Reds’ official Twitter account, Jay Bruce’s MRI showed no tendon or ligament damage in his fractured right wrist. Bruce is still expected to miss six-to-eight weeks, but this comes mostly as positive news for Reds fans and fantasy owners. He suffered the injury Saturday while attempting to make a diving catch. Jonny Gomes and Chris Dickerson should gain playing time in his absence.

Cubs Filing Bankruptcy

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

You don’t hear too many good pieces of news coming out of Tribune Co. these days, but here’s one: The bankrupt media conglomerate has finally reached a long-overdue deal to sell the Chicago Cubs. The sale, reportedly at a price of around $900 million, will help Tribune pay down some of the towering debt load it’s been staggering under since real estate mogul Sam Zell took the company private in December 2007. The buyer, the Ricketts family, has been close to a deal since January, when it came out on top of a three-way bidding war for the Cubs, Wrigley [...]

Bruce’s Replacement

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

Reds GM Walt Jocketty said Drew Stubbs would be the first guy the Reds would look at to replace Jay Bruce. Stubbs has a .280/.373/.373 line in Triple-A Louisville. He’s obviously not going to be a tremendous asset, but does have 33 stolen bases on the season. No moves today have been made. I assume with the impending All-Star break that Walt won’t make the move till after the game.
