Homer Bailey limited the Cardinals to two runs over 7 1/3 innings, but was dealt a no-decision in an eventual 7-4 loss on Friday night.
It’s a shame that his brilliant outing had to get erased on one swing by the mighty Albert Pujols. Bailey gave up a single to Skip Schumaker to start the game, but held the Cards hitless until a Yadier Molina double in the seventh. Bailey retired 12 in a row at one point. He gave up just three hits in all, striking out five while walking two and hitting a batter. He left with two runners on in the eighth, giving way to Arthur Rhodes and David Weathers, who promptly blew the win for the 23-year-old right-hander. Throwing roughly 70 percent of his pitches for strikes was very encouraging. Let’s see how he does in his next start against the Phillies.
A drastic change from his last start with 7 walks. His control was much better. I hope that there will be a change in his confidence as well.
