Two Reds in Futures Game during All-Star weekend.

Posted by: Tim Grimes

Two members of the Reds organization were selected this week to participate in the All-Star Futures Game in St. Louis.

Double-A Carolina outfielder Chris Heisey will play for the U.S. squad, while Class A Dayton right-handed starting pitcher J.C. Sulbaran will be on the World team.

The 11th annual XM All-Star Futures Game, which pits the best Minor League prospects from the United States against the best from the rest of the world, will be held at Busch Stadium on Sunday, July 12, at 2 p.m. ET. MLB.com will provide complete coverage before, during and after the game, which can be seen live on ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD and followed live on Gameday.

It’s been a dominating season to this point for Heisey, who is batting .346 with 13 home runs, 40 RBIs and a .425 on-base percentage through 68 games for the Mudcats this season.

The 24-year-old Heisey ranks either at or near the top of the Southern League in numerous offensive categories including average, hits, slugging percentage (.581), runs scored, homers and on-base percentage.

Heisey was a 17th-round selection by the Reds in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

This season with Dayton, Sulbaran is 2-1 with a 4.60 ERA in nine starts. He has 24 walks and 49 strikeouts through 43 innings.

A Curacao native who is only 19 years old, Sulbaran was a 30th-round Draft pick in 2008 and is participating in his first professional baseball season. He already has international exposure from playing for the Dutch team in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
