Joey “Dizzy” Votto

by Reds

Update: Votto is day to day.

Votto may have lost some strength in his four-day battle with the flu. “He was having trouble breathing,” said teammate Brandon Phillips. “This atmosphere gets to you. It’s so dry. It happened to me two years ago. He’s all right now. Hopefully, he’ll play tomorrow.”

Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto was removed with dizziness in the fourth inning of the Reds’ 3-1 victory at Arizona on Tuesday night.

Votto, whose .381 average leads the NL, was playing first base when manager Dusty Baker and a trainer came out to speak with him. After a brief discussion, they helped Votto into the dugout.

“I could see him batting his eyes, and we got him off the field,” Baker said. “They took all kinds of tests, and everything came out negative. Hopefully he’ll be all right tomorrow.”

Votto had returned to the lineup on Monday night after missing four games with the flu.
