3 More Errors, One More Loss
The Astros won for the 11th straight time in Cincinnati 8-3. Houston has won 17 out of 18 at GABP, sick. Their career record at Great American is 32-15. Wandy Rodriguez beat the Reds for the 2nd time this season. He struck out 5 and only gave up 1 run in 7 innings. Aaron Harang took the loss. He gave up 5 runs in 6 innings. Once again, Mike Lincoln stunk up the ballyard. He pitched one inning and gave up 2 runs to raise his era to a whopping 15.12. Joey Votto had 2 errors and Darnell McDonald had [...]
Breaking News
Edwin Encarnacion has been placed on the 15 day disabled list with a wrist injury. He has a chip fracture in his wrist. Maybe, thats why he is hitting .129. And, as I suggested earlier, Adam Rosales has been called up to take his roster spot. Jerry Hairston Jr is starting at third base tonight but look for Rosales to start tomorrow. Go Reds Tim
Quick Fix
With Chris Dickerson’s head injury, why don’t we put him on the disabled list and call up Adam Rosales. Dickerson has had concussions in the past. So, we should err on the side of caution. Jerry Hairston can start in left field and even platoon with the hot hitting Jayson Nix. We can bench Edwin for a few days and try and ride Rosales’ hot bat. Adam Rosales is tearing up Triple A. He is batting .421 with 4 homeruns and 15 rbis. Rosales has played every infield position for Louisville. He can spell Votto and Phillips as well. He [...]
Shout out
Hey everyone, I just wanted to give a shout out to Mo Egger and C Trent Rosencrans. They are local Cincinnati radio guys on our sports radio station 1530 Homer. I am in Sales which means I am in my car about 7 hours a day. I really enjoyed these guys. They were laid off today. Mo did the 9-12 shift and C Trent was the Reds/Bengals Correspondent for the station. They were each very entertaining. And, I will miss their “company” in my car each and every day. I guess I am back to books on cd. Bye for [...]
Coco Cold
Francisco Cordero gave up 3 runs in the ninth inning to hand the Reds the loss. Three straight hits and a sacrifice to start the ninth did us in. The game was tied 1-1 going into the ninth. Lance Berkman hit his 20th at GABP and Joey Votto drove in the Reds only run in the 6th. Houston has won 10 straight games here in Cincy. They are 16-1 in the last 17 games at GABP. Talk about dominance. Well, how about this, Roy Oswalt brought a 23-1 career record in against Cincy. He didn’t get the win tonight but [...]
Homer Bailey named IL Pitcher of the Week
Right hander Homer Bailey was the International League’s only starting pitcher to win twice this week, also leading the circuit with 12.1 innings pitched and 18 strikeouts. Bailey entered his start Tuesday with a 0-2 record and 11.25 ERA, having been ejected in his previous outing. He responded with 6.0 strong innings at Columbus, holding the Clippers to just two runs on six hits as the Bats went on to win 3-2. Bailey’s second start of the week was an unforgettable performance yesterday in Toledo. In 6.1 innings, Bailey struck out 15 Mud Hens, establishing a new Fifth Third Field [...]
Reds Win Behind Bruce and Votto
The Reds won 8-2 versus Atlanta on Sunday. Jay Bruce homered twice and Joey Votto, once again, had 3 rbis against Kenshin Kawakami. Micah Owings pitched 7 strong innings, giving up a solo homer to David Ross, to get his first win for the Reds. He also went 2-3 at the plate with a double. The unsung play of the day was by Willy Taveras. In the six run fifth inning, with runners on 1st and 2nd, Willy grounded to the shortstop Yunel Escobar. It was a slow dribbler and Taveras beat it out. That set the stage for Votto’s [...]
Lincoln Memorial
Its time for Mike Lincoln to make the 90 mile drive South to Louisville. He has been horrific this season. He has pitched 7 1/3 innings and given 12 runs. The opponents are hitting a healthy .355 against him. And, his era is 14.73. There are a couple of guys down in Louisville pitching very well. And face it, they can’t be much worse than Lincoln has been. Carlos Fisher, in particular, is pitching very effectively for Louisville so far this season. He is 2-0, with a 1.86 era. He also has 12 k’s in only 9 innings and 1 [...]
Bad Starting Pitching One More Time
The Braves crushed the Reds on Saturday afternoon 10-2. Chipper Jones and Yunel Escobar each homered and drove in 4 runs. Bronson Arroyo gave up 9 runs in 5 2/3 innings. A day after Edinson Volquez walked 7 and gave up 3 runs in 5 innings. Once considered the strength of the ballclub, the starting pitching has been shaky at best the last 2 games. If the pitching doesn’t keep the Reds in games, then it looks to be a long season once again. Alex Gonzalez did homer for the first time this season, and first since the 2007 season. [...]
Unlucky Number Seven
The Reds lost 4-3 to the Braves Friday night. The Braves had as many runs as they had hits. But courtesy of the Cincy pitching staff, mostly Edinson Volquez, they issued Atlanta 9 walks and 1 HBP. The hit batsmen resulted in a brief emptying of dugouts and bullpens. Edinson Volquez had no control of his pitches last night. He said, “I lost my release point. Honestly, I didn’t know where the ball was going that inning.” He walked in 2 runs in the fourth inning, including the opposing pitcher. On the plus side, he also had 7 strikeouts in [...]
Reds win matinee
The Reds beat the Cubs 7-1 in the Windy City today. Aaron Harang pitched 7 innings of 1 run baseball and Joey Votto and Chris Dickerson drove in 2 runs apiece. The Reds finished their 10 game road trip with a 7-3 record. This is the first time the Reds won 3 road series on the same trip since 2004. Maybe this will cure the Reds’ road trip trouble. They have had a losing record in the last 23 of 28 away series. Bye for now Tim
Thank you Dusty
My first blog is unofficially sponsored by pogs. Thank you Dusty Baker, for finally moving Brandon Phillips out of the clean-up spot. Saying Brandon is struggling is an understatement. He is hitting .174 with an on-base percentage of .298 so far this season. His struggles actually started last season. Since last years All-Star game he is only hitting .195 with 6 hrs and 18 rbis. Those aren’t the stats for a clean-up hitter. What has happened since the all-star game? Well, Cincy has said goodbye to a couple of guys named Ken Griffey Jr. and Adam Dunn. Coincedence? I think [...]
